OUR MISSION & VISION

Vivid Motion, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit dance company formed in Portland, Maine in October 2003.

We are an inclusive, creative community where people can pursue their love of dance or ignite it for the first time.

Local dancers who wanted to perform and share their love of dance with the community started Vivid Motion. Dance is often seen as artsy or boring, with deep meanings and a secret language. Vivid Motion believes that dance can be entertaining to watch, as well as to do. Our performances are filled with dances intended to entertain. And if a little meaning seeps through, that's ok, too! 

Inclusivity: Vivid Motion is a welcoming and accepting community where everyone can find transformation through the art of dance. We actively strive to promote diversity in our programs and performances.

Empowerment: Our supportive environment allows each person to explore their full potential as a dancer by encouraging performers to embrace their bodies, express themselves, and build self-confidence.

Financial Accessibility: Our classes, performances, and outreach programs exist to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to share stories through dance.

Creative Integrity: We uphold high artistic standards and strive for excellence in our performances and productions. Our talented technical and production teams collaborate with passionate performers and choreographers to engage our audiences and to inspire each other with meaningful dance experiences.

Health and Well-Being: Dance can offer both physical and mental health benefits when participants are in a safe and nurturing environment. We promote healthy movement practices, body positivity, and a holistic approach to dance.

Lifelong Learning: Dance is an ongoing journey of growth and exploration. Our volunteer community builds a new production, technical, and creative team for every dance show. We also offer unique hands-on learning opportunities for all aspects of a theatrical dance production.

Mutual Respect: We have a culture of collaboration and teamwork among our dancers, leaders, and volunteers. By valuing the contributions of every individual, our diverse perspectives enrich our creativity.
